Yes! We ran a test and they are completely compatible.

Last updated: August 01, 2019 13:23

Will the spring need to be replaced?

No, the spring is designed to last the lifetime of the seatpost. We’ve tested the performance of the springs extensively and selected the geometry and material of the spring specifically to withstand the rigors of daily riding without degradation.

What is the warranty?

We stand behind every product that we sell, and we pride ourselves on the quality of our products, as well as the support that we provide to our customers. Redshift Sports warrants that all of our products are free from defects in material and workmanship for two years from the date of original retail purchase.

How is the product tested?

The seatpost is tested to the latest ISO 4210 standard for Racing & Mountain Bicycles. These standards typically specify “Static Strength” tests (i.e. one-time application of force) as well as “Fatigue” tests (i.e. repeated application of force) for different bicycle components. We also run our own independent tests to better understand lifespan which typically involve cycling well beyond the specifications in the ISO 4210 standard.

Do you plan to offer a carbon fiber version?

Currently we do not have plans to release a carbon version. We’re keeping our efforts focused on delivering a fantastic product as soon as possible. If we get enough interest in a carbon version, we will consider adding it to our development roadmap once we’ve fulfilled all Kickstarter orders.

Is the stiffness adjustable?

Absolutely - We designed the ShockStop Seatpost so that you can adjust it to perfectly match your weight and riding style. The internal spring can be changed so you can can choose the spring stiffness. And you can use the preload adjustment knob at the bottom of the seatpost to adjust the spring preload - the amount of force required to cause the saddle to start moving. Together, the stiffness and preload allow you to dial in the feel to your exact preference.

All about springs.

The seatpost uses an internal spring as the suspension element which can be replaced to adjust stiffness. During the survey we will collect rider weight and based on that we will send an appropriate set of springs with each seatpost.

If, in the future, you decide that you want to try a different stiffness spring, we will have other spring stiffnesses available for purchase at a substantial discount for Kickstarter backers.

How does it hold up to mud and sand?

The internal mechanism uses a custom seal to provide a robust barrier to mud, grit and water. They come from the same family of seals that you see on mountain bike front fork suspensions. While we expect these to hold up to heavy off-road usage, this will be a user-serviceable part if the need should arise.

Is there any damping in the system?

Damping is important for MTB because you’re trying to absorb larger amplitude impacts. For high-frequency, small amplitude perturbations, it’s better to have a very lightly damped system to maximize responsiveness. The plunger seals provide enough damping to prevent unwanted movement of the post, but otherwise, the system is free to respond quickly.

What is the minimum installation height?

The ShockStop Seatpost requires at least 90mm from the top of the seat tube collar (the part on your bike that holds the seatpost in place) to the center of the saddle rail in the saddle clamp.

How does international shipping work? Will I be responsible for VAT?

All international rewards will be shipped from the US and will have a declared value of the amount that you pledged, including shipping costs.

We will offer a prepaid option for those who would prefer to pay the taxes & duties up front. The shipping provider charges a fee of €10 for the prepaid VAT service (in addition to the tax and duty amount). We are continuing to look for cheaper options to prepay VAT and will update if we find some. If you don’t choose the prepaid service you will be responsible for any taxes, duties, and fees that are due on import.

Will the ShockStop Seatpost fit in bikes with seatpost diameters larger than 27.2mm?

Yes! The ShockStop Seatpost will fit any bike with a seatpost diameter of 27.2mm or larger. If your seatpost size is larger than 27.2mm you will need to use a shim which is a very common way to allow bikes to accept different size posts. If needed, you can add a shims to your order when filling out your survey or anytime before shipping. Shims are available in all standard sizes: 28.6, 29.8, 30.0, 30.9, 31.6, and 31.8 mm - just match up the size of your current seatpost and you are all set.

Is the ShockStop compatible with a Di2 battery BT-DN110?

Yes, the seatpost is compatible with mounting a Di2 battery - we have a ShockStop-specific mounting option that you can add to your order as an add-on in Backerkit when you fill out your survey.

Is the ShockStop Seatpost compatible with my folding bike?

The ShockStop Seatpost is 27.2mm in diameter and 350mm long. Typically, folding bikes use very long seatposts in larger diameters, but many folding bikes come with and can work with telescopic seatposts. These allow you to use a standard seatpost like the ShockStop by adding an extension that fits into the bike and accepts the standard seatpost. Check with you local bike shop or bike manufacturer to see if one of these is available and if it accepts 27.2mm seatposts. An example of one that accepts 27.2mm seatposts is the Tern telescopic seatpost: https://www.ternbicycles.com/us/gear/471/telescopic-seatpost.

Will my saddle bag fit with the ShockStop Seatpost / What bags work best?

Since the saddle rails move relative to the post as the suspension compresses, many standard saddle bags might not work well with the ShockStop Seatpost. (typically these bags connect to both the rails and the post in a rigid or semi-rigid manner)

We’ve partnered with Silca to offer their line of Seat Rolls and Seat Capsule bags, which attach to the seat rails using the super-secure Boa lacing system. These bags work perfectly with the ShockStop Seatpost and you can add them to your order in BackerKit when filling out the survey.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
