All About Springs
over 4 years ago – Wed, Aug 28, 2019 at 10:20:23 PM

Hi Backers,

Many of you have been asking about seatpost spring selection so we wanted to share details on the final configuration.

The Seatpost Springs and Pre-Load Adjustment End Cap

Initially, we had planned to offer a number of different springs to accommodate different rider weights, which is why we had several different weight categories in the survey. Instead, we were able to simplify things by adding an optional inner spring that can be nested inside the standard outer spring. We are able to cover the full range of weights with these two springs, AND we will be including both springs with each seatpost so that each rider can have all the options available to them!

The Spring and Spacers Ready to Be Assembled

The standard outer spring will accommodate the majority of riders. The 2nd spring, which nests inside the outer spring, can be added to get an even stiffer suspension feel.  Once the spring choice is made, the pre-load plug at the bottom of the seatpost can be turned to fine tune the initial compression and ride feel.

We will be providing simple guidance on springs and pre-load settings for different rider sizes within the instructions that come with the seatpost.

Inner and Outer Spring Assembled Together

As always, you can reach us at [email protected] or via the Kickstarter messaging system. We will have another update in a couple weeks as more component parts come in. Stay tuned!

Thanks!

Sneak Peek of the Assembly Process
almost 5 years ago – Thu, Jul 11, 2019 at 12:19:32 AM

Hi Backers,

Here's a sneak peek behind the scenes as we set up and tune the ShockStop Seatpost assembly process. We have been building assembly fixtures and testing them using production sample parts so we are ready as soon as the production parts arrive.

Testing Assembly Process with Production Samples

As many of you know, we do assembly and quality control for all our products at our workspace in Philadelphia USA. This lets us put our hands on every single part through all assembly steps which enables us to identify issues that would be difficult to detect in a fully assembled product.

The ShockStop Seatpost assembly process is pretty involved (there are more than 50 individual steps), so designing custom fixtures and assembly tools for each step is critical to processing big batches of parts quickly and repeatably.

Custom bushing and shaft press fixtures allow us to align the bushings and shafts with the seatpost and linkage bores to ensure proper fit.

Snap ring pliers are great but we can save time using our nifty snap ring attachment fixture.

One of the last steps is to press fit the precision pivot shafts to assemble the linkages to the post base. If you want to see more cool gifs and images of the assembly fixtures let us know!

Production is proceeding on the revised schedule laid out in our last update - if you missed it, you can find it here:  https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/redshiftsports/shockstop-seatpost-add-suspension-to-your-bike/posts/2535016

And as always, feel free to email us with any questions you might have through Kickstarter or direct to [email protected]. Thank you so much for all your support - we will have another update soon!
