Surveys Coming Monday
almost 6 years ago – Thu, Jun 14, 2018 at 12:35:27 AM

Hi Backers -

We wanted to give you a heads-up that backer surveys will start going out next Monday 6/18. We'll be sending out the surveys over the course of a couple days to make sure we have the opportunity to address any questions that you encounter during the process. Keep an eye on your inbox, and if you don't see the survey by Thursday 6/21, go ahead and check your spam folder to make sure it didn't get flagged by your email provider.

If you have any questions while you're completing the survey, take a look at our Survey FAQ Page - we've addressed a lot of common questions that people have. Still can't find an answer? Don't hesitate to contact us at [email protected].

Silca Saddle Bags

One common question that we get is "how do I attach a saddle bag to the ShockStop Seatpost?" It's a good question - since the saddle rails move relative to the post as the suspension compresses, many standard saddle bags (which typically connect to both the rails and the post) won't work well with the ShockStop Seatpost. We've partnered with Silca to offer their line of Seat Rolls and Seat Capsule bags, which attach to the seat rails using the super-secure Boa lacing system. These bags work perfectly with the ShockStop Seatpost and you can add them to your preorder in BackerKit.

Mineral Design Tools

Wondering what to put in that saddle bag? We'll also be offering Mineral Design's ingenious Mini Bar Tool as an optional add-on. The Mini Bar packages 6 different commonly used tools into a sleek, super-functional package that tucks neatly into your pocket or bag. We never leave home without ours!

Upcoming Survey Schedule, Early Stem Shipments, and VAT
almost 6 years ago – Thu, May 17, 2018 at 01:21:30 AM

Hi Backers!

Now that the Kickstarter has wrapped, we're turning our full attention to testing, production, and fulfillment. We've got our work cut out for us, considering that collectively, you preordered 2366 ShockStop Seatposts and 672 ShockStop Stems!

Backer Survey Schedule

We're planning on sending out the backer survey during the first week of June. It takes Kickstarter a couple of weeks to charge backers' credit cards and transfer the funds to us. At that point, we'll transfer your contact and pledge information into BackerKit and send out surveys.

BackerKit is a great tool that we used on our past campaigns - it lets us securely organize your shipping info and reward selections, and also lets you easily manage your order (for example, you can update your shipping address or add additional items to your order at any time).

In the survey, we'll ask you for the following information:

  • Current shipping address. Don't worry if this changes - you'll be able to update your address any time before the rewards ship, and we'll remind you closer to the ship date.
  • Reward selection details. You'll select the spring stiffness level for your ShockStop Seatpost(s). If you selected a System-level pledge that included one or more ShockStop Stems, we'll ask you to specify which length/angle stem(s) you need (and don't worry, we'll provide guidance regarding how to choose).
  • Riding demographic questions. We're interested in what, where, and how often you ride, so we'll have a few questions just to get to know you better.
  • Add-ons. Want to add a stem to your order? Need a seatpost shim? We'll have a variety of add-ons available for purchase in BackerKit at Kickstarter pricing. Besides extra seatposts and stems, we'll also have shims, stem computer mounts, and other hand-picked accessories available to customize your ride.

Don't worry if you don't know the answers to some of these questions right now - we'll help walk you through them once the survey goes out. Also, rest assured that you can change your survey responses at any point between now and when we are ready to ship (November 2018 target). So if you move, or get a new bike, or want to upgrade your pledge, you can update your responses at any time.

Early Stem Shipments for System-Level Backers

We know you're chomping at the bit to get your ShockStop Systems! If you're interested in receiving your ShockStop Stem before the Seatpost is ready, we'll have an option in BackerKit that will let you select early stem delivery (we will ask you to pay a small additional shipping fee since it's more expensive for us to ship out two packages). Estimated shipment for the early stems is mid to late June 2018.

Prepaid VAT for EU Backers

European backers - we heard you loud and clear. You'll have the option to pre-pay VAT to avoid any further delays or holdups once your order is ready to ship. There will be a pre-payment fee (paid directly to our fulfillment provider) of approximately €10 in addition to the actual VAT owed.

If you do not select the pre-payment option, then you will be responsible for payment of the applicable taxes/duties - this applies for all international (non-US) backers. Please note that we are required by law to declare the full value of your pledge amount for all shipments. We cannot accommodate requests to change the shipping value of any reward shipments.

(Thank You x 2215) + What's Next
almost 6 years ago – Sat, May 12, 2018 at 01:42:30 AM

We launched the Kickstarter campaign exactly one month ago with high hopes. But even in our wildest dreams, we could not have predicted the incredible response that we received from the Kickstarter community. 2215 backers pledged over $430,000, which is totally mindblowing. We can't thank you enough - none of this would have been possible without your support and enthusiasm.

.

What to expect now.

We're going to take the weekend to recover, but expect an update from us next week with details regarding the backer survey schedule. Similar to our previous Kickstarter campaigns, we'll be using a great service called BackerKit, which lets us collect and manage the reward and shipping information for all 2000+ backers seamlessly. Be on the lookout for that update next week.

Going forward, we'll be communicating regularly regarding the status of testing, production, and fulfillment. We cannot wait to get the seatposts on your bikes, but there are quite a few steps between now and then. Rest assured that we'll keep you informed throughout the process with detailed, transparent updates. And as always, don't hesitate to communicate with us via Kickstarter comments, Facebook, or email at [email protected].

Know someone who missed the Kickstarter?

Lazy friend? Indecisive spouse? Skeptical riding partner? Well, unfortunately, they missed out forever on Kickstarter preorder pricing (feel free to rub it in). The good news is that we'll still be accepting preorders (albeit at a higher price and later delivery window) via Indiegogo In-Demand. After all, everyone deserves to be comfortable on their bike, right?

One more time

I know we've said it a lot, so we'll say it one more time: thank you. The Kickstarter community helped us launch Redshift Sports in 2013, and we feel a deep gratitude for your continued support. We think the ShockStop Seatpost is our best product yet, and we can't wait for you to try it for yourself.

ShockStop Test Riding - Pacifica CA
almost 6 years ago – Fri, May 04, 2018 at 01:28:03 AM

Hi Backers,

We continue to be thrilled by all your support and can't thank you enough for making this such a great campaign. Managing the Kickstarter does take up a lot of time, but we are also simultaneously pushing forward with production and testing efforts, including real-world test rides on the prototype seatposts.

.

Yesterday, Stephen and Erik took a break from their computers to ride some gravel on the Sweeney Ridge Trail in the mountains above Pacifica, CA. It was a beautiful day and an amazing ride. Best of all, the seatposts performed great and made a huge difference on the rough, rocky trails (parts of which would have been better suited for a full-suspension mountain bike).

Thanks again for all your support! There are only 8 days left in the Kickstarter campaign, so tell your friends (and your enemies).

What Kickstarter projects are we backing right now?

Erik recently backed Tropic , a do-it-all sneaker that is killing it right now on Kickstarter. The shoes combine the benefits of water shoes, the comfort of sneakers, and the technical outsole of a trail shoe, with a casual style that goes with pretty much everything. Seems like the perfect thing to slip into for a post-ride beer. You can check out the project for yourself HERE.

Thanks,

Sea Otter Recap & Products We Love
almost 6 years ago – Thu, Apr 26, 2018 at 10:31:10 AM

Backers -

We had a great time at the 2018 Sea Otter Festival! Thanks to everyone who stopped by to test out the seatpost on our roller-bump-torture-device (see video below). It's always a pleasure to meet our backers in person, and the response to the seatpost was amazing! Scroll to the bottom for a full slideshow of pictures from the festival.

.

Sea Otter reminded us that there are lots of cool bike products out there. We thought we would do a short rundown of some great bike Kickstarter projects that we think are worth checking out.

Quoc GT Gravel Shoe

.

If you are thinking about some new shoes, check out theGT Gravel Shoe from Quoc. These guys have been making great shoes since 2009 and their newest addition is pretty awesome. Pre-order it now while their campaign is still on or check out their site to see the whole line.

Mineral Design Mini-Bar Bike Tool

.

We love this tool! It's simple, compact, versatile and never leaves our side. And what makes it even better is that it's made by our good friends and Philadelphia neighbors Justin and Mike at Mineral Design. The tool was born on Kickstarter back in 2016 and has been getting rave reviews ever since (and not just from us). We all carry one when we ride and always have one in our shop - do yourself a favor and pick one up.

Stomp Pump - bike foot pump

.

We had a chance to meet up with Woody (one of the creators) to check this out at Sea Otter. Stomp Pump is a portable foot pump that can be stored on the bike. While it may be small enough to mount on the bike, it's still powerful enough to easily inflate your tires. Check out their campaign here.
